SMPTE Sends Note on Recent Coronavirus Pandemic

SMPTE Executive Director Barbara Lange has released a statement regarding the recent developments of the coronavirus outbreak:

As we experience the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that SMPTE is primarily concerned with the health and safety of all members, friends, partners, staff and other stakeholders.

As of Monday, 16 March 2020, SMPTE’s operations will continue largely as usual, however, our staff team is now working remotely. This means that most activities that you rely on remain available and open to serve you without interruption,

We would like to offer the following updates:

  • Sections leaders have been advised to conduct virtual meetings where possible and to follow local guidelines pertaining to public gatherings based on their local health authorities. We are working with the Board of Governors and Section leadership to determine how the community can work together with the fewest possible interruptions.
  • The SMPTE-produced Future of Cinema Conference (FoCC) at the NAB Show 2020 will not take place as scheduled. Together with our NAB partner, we are exploring other ways to deliver the FoCC content to you virtually and will update the community as soon as we learn more.
  • Because many upcoming industry events are being canceled, it is important to SMPTE to consider ways for professionals like you to deliver technical insights and informative content to the community. Keep abreast of the latest through IABM’s site
  • To help the industry navigate this immediate situation, starting today, we are making our technology webcasts open free of charge for our members and the public. Additionally, all our virtual classes are now available at 50% off. Please register for a course using the SMPTE50 discount code.

The well-being of our community is extremely important to us. Please do take care to follow the guidelines outlined by your governing bodies and health authorities.

While SMPTE always strives to support you in your career and technical journey, we are ever more committed to offering support during this trying time.
