NBA 2K League Launches 3-on-3 Tourney Featuring Fan Teams, Top Female Players, Influencers

The tournament will be live-streamed on Twitch and YouTube

With the start of NBA 2K League competition postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league is launching the first-ever “NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown”: an online 3-on-3 tournament featuring fan-organized teams, top female 2K players, and social-media influencers competing in the NBA 2K20 MyPark game mode for the chance to play against NBA 2K League teams and a share of a $25,000 prize pool. The NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown games, which will begin on March 27, will be live-streamed on the NBA 2K League Twitch and YouTube channels.

The NBA 2K League’s 2020 season had been scheduled to tip off Tuesday, March 24 out of a new Manhattan studio, but the start was postponed to protect the health and well-being of players, teams, and fans. The league had previously said that teams would compete in preseason competitions remotely from their markets as they continue to prepare for the start of the 2020 season.

The NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown will comprise two stages. The first will feature 32 fan-organized teams competing against each other in distinct Xbox and PS4 brackets and will take place March 27-29 (fans can sign up beginning the week of March 23 at NBA2KLeague.com).

The second stage will take (March 31–April 3) and will feature NBA 2K League players (teams of three will represent their NBA 2K League teams), top female 2K players, social-media influencers, and the top-performing teams from the fan‑only stage, again competing against each other in distinct Xbox and PS4 brackets.

All series except the final rounds of each bracket will be best-of-three‑games series; the final‑round matchups will be best-of-five‑games.

“We hope that the first-ever NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown will provide NBA 2K League fans and the 2K community with an exciting and fun way to engage with our game and one another during these unprecedented times,” the league said in a statement. “While we’re encouraged to practice social distancing, it’s important that we stay connected.”

The $25,000 prize pool will include $15,000 available to the non-NBA 2K League teams in the second stage, $9,000 available to the NBA 2K League teams, and $1,000 available to the winners of the fan‑only brackets in the first stage.
