Origins of the Sportscast by Mark Schubin (History of Media Series)

When he was inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1976, former pitcher and manager Bob Lemon told the Cooperstown crowd that he was introduced to the sport and his future team soon after his birth, when his mother took him to see the World Series. But the games were being played in Brooklyn and Cleveland while Lemon was in California, and the year was 1920. Watching remote baseball games live before television? Fans across North America had already been doing so for 36 years by that time.
