CEATEC 2014: 4K, 8K, and So Very Many Robots

This year’s edition of Japan’s largest electronics tradeshow may suffer from a record-low number of exhibits and the absence of the struggling behemoth Sony, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of state-of-the-art video technology and fun new gadgets on display at CEATEC this week. The show, which opened Tuesday in Chiba outside Tokyo and runs through Saturday, was dominated by 4K- and 8K-focused exhibits from Panasonic, Sharp, Mitsubishi, NHK and others. However, there was plenty more than just big, breathtaking, high-res screens to look at, as tech companies rolled out Google-glass style wearables, robots of all shapes and sizes, and, yes, dinosaurs.
