Daktronics upgrades Greensboro facility

Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC, has upgraded its facility with programmable, light emitting diode (LED) technology from Daktronics.

The move comes just in time as the arena will host three post-season college basketball tournaments, marking the first time in history that one arena has three Division I post-season college basketball tournaments in consecutive weeks.

With the Coliseum’s rich ties to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the ACC Women’s Tournament (March 2-5), ACC Men’s Tournament (March 9-12) as well as the NCAA Division I Men’s First and Second round games (March 16 &18) will provide the city of Greensboro with 28 games in 10 days.

Matt Brown, Greensboro Coliseum Complex managing director, says, “Daktronics technology is critical to us providing our ticket-holders with a first-class, state of the art patron experience. We have heard nothing but rave reviews from fans, promoters and ACC Tournament officials.”

The upgraded scoring display features four new ProStar VideoPlus displays, providing fans with the added entertainment of live and recorded video, color animation and vivid graphics. The video displays use red, green and blue (RGB) light emitting diode technology to present graphics and information with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility.

The new ProStar displays are installed within the existing four-sided centerhung basketball scoreboard. Each display measures approximately 7 feet 3 inches high by 11 feet 5 inches wide with pixels on 10 mm (.39 inches) center-to-center spacing, the same technology as several NBA facilities.

Greensboro spectators will also be entertained by a 360 degree ribbon ProAd ring display attached on the top of the centerhung. Dimensions of the display measure approximately 2 feet 8 inches high by 115 feet in circumference with 23 mm (.90 inches) center-to-center pixel spacing.

Outside of Greensboro Coliseum, six new marquee screens will welcome and inform fans and visitors.

ProStar VideoPlus technology, HD-ready and available only from Daktronics, uses (LED) technology to present live and recorded video images, colorful animation and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility.
