ESPN, Greenspan top list of Sports Emmy nominees

ESPN nailed down a total of 45 Sports Emmy nominations today and Bud Greenspan, whose Olympic films have become a post-games highlight for the past nine games, is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

ESPN s 45 nods were spread among its properties with ESPN grabbing 26, ESPN2 another 12, ESPN Classic four and ESPN.com an additional three.
Other networks grabbing nominations were HBO (17 nominations), Fox (16), ABC (14), CBS (11), TNT (9), NBC (7), Fox Sports Net (3), Discovery Channel (2), NFL Network (2), Speed Channel (2), OLN (1), USA (1) and MLB.com (1).

Among the highlights:
A first this year is the Outstanding Achievement in Content for non-traditional delivery platform like mobile phones and iPod. The nominees are: Baseball’s Best Moments MLB.com

On the technical side the FoxTrax on Fox s MLB coverage, SwingVision used on CBS golf coverage and FLW Outdoors specialty miniature cameras used by Fox Sports Net were nominated for Outstanding Innovative Technical Achievement.

NASCAR broadcasts stepped to the forefront on the technical side with Fox s Daytona 500 coverage and NASCAR on NBC/TNT both grabbing nominations for Outstanding Technical Team Remote. ESPN Sunday Night Football and Winter X Games Nine were also nominated.

ESPN swept the Outstanding Technical Team Studio category with its NBA draft, NFL draft, and This is SportsCenter all receiving nominations.
Greenspan, whose films have received seven Sports Emmy awards over the years, will add the Lifetime Achievement Award to other honors like being inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.

The 27th Annual Sports Emmy Awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Monday, May 1 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.
