Daktronics scoreboards bound for Superdome

Daktronics has been awarded a contract to provide a new integrated scoring and display system inside the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The system includes two large ProStar video boards, two large ProAd fascia displays, and four additional full-color light emitting diode (LED) displays. The value of the project approaches $6 million with installation scheduled to be complete in time for the start of the 2006 National Football League regular season. The order was booked in the Company’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2006.

“Daktronics was chosen to provide the new scoring and display system for the Superdome because its knowledge of the facility, its design capabilities, the quality of its products and services, its track record in the industry, and its competitive price,” said Glenn Menard, General Manager of the Superdome and New Orleans Arena. “The ten state of the art displays will allow for even greater excitement and entertainment for a wide variety of events. The system is an important part of the renovation of this landmark facility.”

The system includes two large ProStar VideoPlus displays, each measuring approximately 27 feet high by 48 feet wide, with 352 by 640 Pure Pixel resolution. Four additional ProStar displays, each approximately 8 feet high by 44 feet wide, will provide additional video, stats and other information. Four large ProAd displays will be installed on the interior fascia, each measuring approximately 3 feet 6 inches high by 183 feet long.

The New Orleans Saints will play all eight regular season games in the Superdome. Tulane University will also play all of its 2006 home football games inside the Superdome. “It is nice to see the Superdome coming back strong,” said Brent Stevens, Regional Sales Manager for Daktronics Large Sports Venues. “The new system will be a great fit for a great facility in a great sports city.”

Center-to-center pixel spacing for all displays is 23 mm (.90 inches). More than one million picture elements (pixels) comprised of more than 3.1 million individual red, green and blue (RGB) light emitting diodes will populate the ten displays. The integrated system will be controlled with Daktronics proven Venus 7000 controllers, V-Link video processors, and All Sport scoring controller.
