ARRI Media, DVS develop World Cup slo-motion camera
Story Highlights
World Cup viewers will be treated to slow-motion HD images captured via a new system developmed by ARRI Media and DVS. The new HD camera can shoot at 300 frames per second and will be used for approximately 40 of the World Cup matches (there will be two cameras on hand with each covering 20 matches).
The camera will be placed at pitch level towards the corner and will
provide mainly extreme close-ups on the ball, feet, tackles, headers
and challenges in the air, and goalkeeper action. It will be used
chiefly for highlights and analysis applications.
HBS CEO Francis Tellier says the footage is an added benefit and still in the test stage. But, he adds, it will be the added cherry on the cake for a multi-feed production of each match with 25 HD cameras and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound.
