Penn Telecom Expands Broadband Capacity for All-Star Coverage

Just in time for the All-Star Game festivities, held July 7-11 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA, telecommunications provider Penn Telecom has completed a broadband communications platform to serve the estimated 500 print and media members covering the event. The company has announced the completion of a fiber optic cable that connects PNC Park to Penn Telecom s optical broadband network, delivering 2.5 Gigabits per second of bandwidth capacity to communications lines used by media at the event.

The volume of communications traffic generated by the coverage of an All- Star Game simply overwhelms the standard telecom facilities of a major league ballpark, said Penn Telecom s president, Frank Macefe. In this era of instant global communications and rich-media content, the demand for additional network connectivity to support an All-Star game requires a rapid-deployment broadband solution. The Pittsburgh-based company believes it is the first regional telecommunications provider to supply communications infrastructure for a sporting event with global exposure.
