Turner Sports Extends Nascar Deal

Turner Sports New Media has finalized a deal that will allow the company to continue its operation of Nascar.com, the official site of Nascar. The deal also includes new opportunities for Turner’s TNT to distribute highlights from race telecasts across Time Warner’s family of networks.

The new eight-year TV rights deal will begin next season. Under the new deal, TNT will air a mid-summer package of six Nextel races on consecutive weekends, including the July 4 weekend race from Daytona.

It s an important week for Turner Sports to confirm with our friends at Nascar our long-term commitment, through Turner Sports New Media, to be the home of Nascar.com, and to officially start the second half of the Nascar TV schedule on TNT, said David Levy, president of Turner Sports. Nascar has been an important part of Turner Sports lineup for over 20 years. We see this year as a great opportunity to continue to put our foot on the gas and explore new media platforms and extend the Nascar on TNT brand into the next decade.

Nascar returns to TNT Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m. with a Busch Series race, and the action continues on Sunday, July 9, with a Nextel Cup Series race at 3 p.m. TNT will air 8 Nextel Cup races and 14 Bush Series races this season, and will once again partner with NBC to telecast the second-half of the Nascar season.
