Viewcast makes streaming video easy

By Andrew Lippe
Sportscasters on the hunt for new means to convert video content into streaming content have a new option: ViewCast s Go Stream system.

The $5,995 system is a new single-channel, portable streaming media encoder. Viewcast says the product is aimed at various sports organizations looking for a low-cost solution to meet their streaming video needs. “ViewCast customers can now establish video communications from anywhere with the simple press of a button,” says Dave Stoner, ViewCast president and chief operating officer.

Bob Greenberg, VP of marketing at ViewCast, says the versatile product is hooked up to a camera and instantly creates Internet-ready video and audio. A key aspect of the product is that it operates using an easy-to-use interface and Niagara SCX software gives it the ability to encode in Windows Media, Real or Flash formats. “GoStream takes analog information like hair, skin, height, weight and turns it into digital information, says Greenberg. It s like the difference between a blueprint and a building.”
It also features EZStream event buttons, allowing users to load pre-defined encoding profiles for a specific event and begin a streaming session. Users can also encode audio and video content, access the system’s health status, set up network connections and export video content.

“GoStream is portable, weighs only five pounds and is also wireless,” says Greenberg, letting users operate the system from remote locations. Greenberg also says GoStream can be used for college recruiting and even at practices.
