DVB-H continues to become a reality across Europe
with Rohde & Schwarz announcing that it will supply nearly 20 DVB-H
transmitters to Digital Oy, the Finnish network operator and license holder.
Mobile TV is the next hot topic and I think it will be much
bigger than DVB-T because it needs more transmitters, said Markku Huvinen,
Rohde & Schwarz Finland account manager.
We expect it to be a huge market.
Huvinen said R&S worked with Digital Oy on a mobile TV
trial. Digital Oy will launch a commercial
DVB-H services this December, with 15 transmitters located in Helsinki. Rohde &
Schwarz will supply liquid-cooled high-power transmitters from the R&S
NV7000 series as well as air-cooled medium-power transmitters from the R&S
NV8200 family that can handle both DVB T and DVB-H..
Digital Oy expects to serve 30% of the population by 2007.
50% by 2008 and 70% by 2009.
