The Internet is quickly becoming a major source for sports coverage, as shown by ITV in the UK is making its coverage of the UEFA Champions League available on broadband connections as a pay-per-view service, ahead of the launch of its new web portal next year.

The European championship, which began during September, is being streamed live for broadband connections. Matches are also available for download from ITV Sports’ online archive.

This service is a precursor to the full launch of ITV’s broadband portal during next year, which will offer simulcasts of all programs plus catch-up episodes and previews of the broadcaster’s top shows.

An ITV spokeswoman said that a “paid for model” had been decided upon, with users either paying a one-off fee of just under 20 (30 euros/$38) for the whole archive or 1.99 (3 euros/$3.77) for individual matches.
