Avid taps Estes for newly created CMO slot

Avid Technology has appointed Greg Estes as chief marketing officer, reporting directly to president and CEO, David Krall. In this newly-created role, Estes will drive cross-divisional marketing and brand initiatives in support of Avid’s corporate mission to serve the industries that make, manage and move media.

Estes’ professional career includes more than 20 years working for
technology- and entertainment-related businesses. Prior to joining
Avid, he served as vice president of global marketing for Mountain
View, CA-based Silicon Graphics, where he was instrumental in the
company’s development of animation, special effects, video serving, and
digital asset management solutions. Estes was also a founding member of
RasterOps Corporation, which developed the first color graphics boards and video capture devices for the Macintosh II in the late 1980’s.

“With deep technology and entertainment industry expertise that spans the core audio, video and consumer sectors that are central to our business, Greg Estes is an ideal fit for this new and tremendously important role at Avid Technology,” said Krall. “In recent years, we’ve greatly expanded the number of markets we serve to address the explosive proliferation of digital content creation, management, and distribution that is taking place in the world – at both the professional and consumer levels. With the breadth and depth of what we offer today, there is a significant opportunity to further raise the visibility of Avid Technology’s global leadership position in the film, video, audio, broadcast, animation, games, storage, and consumer technology industries. Greg has the industry background, strategic vision, and marketing savvy to lead this important charge for us, and we’re looking forward to tapping his many talents in this new CMO role.”

“Avid Technology is a true pioneer; transforming the way both professionals and consumers create, interact with and share digital content,” said Estes. “In addition to having the industry-leading position in film, television, and video editing and content management, the company houses a much broader portfolio of market-leading brands – like Digidesign, M-Audio, Pinnacle and Softimage. Though the needs of Avid customers can vary significantly, they all share a common vision: to harness new and powerful technologies that allow them to unleash their talent and accomplish their goals. With the continued, rapid evolution of digital content
creation, mobile content consumption, and social networking, Avid is in a unique position to capitalize on many new and emerging business opportunities. I am energized to be part of the Avid team and eager to help the company further elevate its corporate brand identity in the global marketplace.”
