KOSA adds JVC HD camcorders

KOSA-TV, Channel 7, the CBS affiliate in Odessa, Texas, has added seven JVC ProHD GY-HD110U camcorders to the station for field acquisition and live remote broadcasts. In addition, six ProHD BR-HD50U player/recorders were purchased for their NLE and station archiving.

“We really needed to replace our older Beta SP units. We chose JVC because of the HD110’s features, portability and price,” said Jim McKinnon, director of engineering, KOSA-TV. “JVC’s solution will also enable KOSA’s future expansion when we upgrade our NLE capability.”

“The HD110s give us more shooting time per tape — 60 minutes compared to 20 minutes with Beta,” said McKinnon. “Some of our videographers have shot for two days on one tape. And, using Anton-Bauer batteries with the QR-JVC7/14HDV adapter, we’ve been able to shoot for days on a single battery charge.”

When asked about the advantages JVC equipment McKinnon noted, “Less weight on the shoulder makes a long day, a much easier day. Another great feature is being able to use a laptop in the field to ingest and transport to the station via Internet with the cameras’ fire wire interface. We are really impressed with JVC’s cameras.”
