Telenor expands Intelsat contract

Telenor Satellite Services expanded a multi-year contract with Intelsat to include transmission services on three different spacecraft in C- and Ku-band. The capacity is being used for Telenor’s Sealink maritime high-speed data communications solution through its Eik Teleport in Norway.

Through this agreement, Telenor renewed its contract on the Intelsat 903 and Intelsat 704 satellites for C-band capacity connectivity in the Atlantic Ocean Region and Indian Ocean Region respectively and in addition began using Ku-band capacity on the Intelsat 907 satellite for North Sea and Atlantic Ocean distribution.

“Intelsat’s global C-band beams and Ku-band spotbeams are well-suited to address the unique and mission-critical needs of the maritime community,” said Tore Morten Olsen, Executive Vice President of Customized Solutions for Telenor Satellite Services. “Telenor’s Sealink service is now well positioned to continue to meet existing and future customer demands for network communications at sea.”

Sealink utilizes Intelsat’s flexible geostationary satellite constellation in conjunction with Telenor Satellite Services’ gateways located around the world to provide always-on maritime VSAT services to the shipping and oil and gas industries. With Intelsat’s C- and Ku-band transmissions, Sealink is able to offer a wide range of business and entertainment communications including crew and passenger telephony; radio contact; Internet access; video conferencing; large-volume data communications; and TV reception.

“The Intelsat-Telenor relationship spans many decades and is representative of the converged market environment we serve,” said Stephen Spengler, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific Sales. “This is a prime example of our flexible global satellite system’s ability to provide video and data services that meet today’s customer requirements. Through our network, Telenor Satellite Services is able to gain seamless coverage between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean regions for its maritime end users.”
