Daktronics, Screenworks team up for Daytona
Story Highlights
Daktronics’ rental partner ScreenWorks, a leading large screen video rental and production company based in Corona, CA, recently equipped the 2007 Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Fla., with two Daktronics light-emitting diode (LED) video screens in the track infield for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series opener.
ScreenWorks provided displays for the last four days of Speedweeks, a two week series of auto races held at Daytona International Speedway with the Daytona 500 as the final event. Fans seated at turn two along the Superstretch watched a dominating, 448-panel ProTour display measuring approximately 26 feet high by 46 feet wide.
“The ProTour system is one of our newer products and we wanted to showcase our ability to setup that large of the screen,” said Sam Artinger, Director of Racing Operations/Special Projects for ScreenWorks. “The system performed flawlessly. It does make a difference to have the support of Daktronics.”
Coming out of turn four, ScreenWorks provided Big Mo #9, a NEXTEL-branded video mobile trailer equipped with an 18-feet by 24-feet ProStar video screen that travels to nearly every NEXTEL Cup race.
The dynamic displays transmitted live, up-close action to racing fans for each event held during the four days. Image magnifcation included every turn around the track and the presentation of the prestigious Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane.
ScreenWorks first purchased displays from Daktronics in 2005 when the company retrofitted two of their video mobile trailers with ProStar technology. The company further invested in Daktronics video technology in 2006 when it purchased a 550-panel ProTour modular LED video kit with 13 millimeter line spacing.
Daktronics leads the industry in the production and innovation of LED video displays. In 1997, Daktronics introduced the successful ProStar video line, a large-screen, full-color display system using red, green and blue (RGB) LED technology. Daktronics built its first mobile ProStar display in 1999, and in 2004, the company launched its current modular LED video display, the ProTour system. Today Daktronics manufactures premier, full-color video displays with thousands of video screens sold throughout the world.
