Obituary: Andy Kindle, longtime CBS, Fox Sports producer, dead at 60

Andy Kindle who spent 14 years with CBS Sports and 10 years at Fox Sports as a TV sports producer, passed away Saturday in Tampa, FL. He was just days shy of his 61st birthday. A native of Central City, IL, Andy’s brother Newton says Andy was eating with a friend after just returning from a boat ride when he was stricken. He is a 1964 graduate of Centralia High School. Andy had retired from the TV business after spending 14 years with CBS Sports and ten with Fox Sports—earning a total of 18 Emmy’s.

Despite his success, Andy never lost touch with his home town. Most recently he helped spearhead the effort to save Trout Gym and promote Centralia as home of a national high school basketball sports hall of fame. Kindel has been honored as Grand Marshall of the Centralia Halloween Parade. Entrance signs had also been erected at the entrance to Central City noting the community as the birthplace of Andy Kendel. Black bows were added to the signs Monday to note Andy’s passing.

Andy is survived locally by his mother Betty Kindel of Central City, brother Newton of Walnut Hill, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
