SSL expands C100 digital broadcasting console portfolio

Solid State Logic is expanding the C100 Digital Broadcast Console product portfolio. The acclaimed C100 console has evolved to become the C100 HD with new Version 4.0 software that delivers an enhanced feature set and a significant boost in processing power. The C100 HD console is joined by the new C100 HD-S, a smaller form factor console designed for space limited applications. The new C100 HD range is further enhanced by the addition of a new smaller front loading Processor option the Centuri HD-S. Solid State Logic will exhibit its new C Series range at NAB 2007, April 16-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (booth #N2526).

The C100 HD and HD-S consoles have an identical feature set but in different formats tailored to ever more closely meet the needs of the entire range of broadcast applications. Both consoles can be used with either the newly expanded Centuri HD Processor or the new Centuri HD-S Processor options. The new product range enhances Solid State Logic’s capacity to specify systems that are a perfect fit for the complete spectrum of studio and truck installations.

The C100 HD consoles offer a significant increase in console processing power and flexibility with up to 512 fader inputs. With the Version 4.0 software package, the C100 HD consoles support a high-density processing engine and control surfaces with access to up to 256 fully-featured input channels with full processing capabilities. The C100 HD consoles additionally offer up to 256 additional short channel ‘premix’ inputs with fader control, pan capabilities and access to mono, stereo and 5.1 submix (Utility) busses.

Among a number of customer led feature requests, C100 HD V4 software now offers…

For facilities requiring dynamic automation for broadcast post-production, the C100 HD consoles now support direct control of a DAW via HUI protocol.
A new low-cost MADI interface may be used with any third-party MADI equipment to further expand the I/O capacity.
To handle broadcast playback sources from VTRs or hard-disk playout systems, the C100 HD consoles offer a 4-element channel format, with full ‘spill’ functionality.
New processing libraries provide fast recall of channel processing presets, enabling a collection of favorite settings to be created and stored.

Available from July 2007, the C100 HD-S surface is a slimline version of the control interface, designed for space-limited applications such as small control rooms and trucks. With a narrower fader pitch, it can pack 64 faders into less than a 92-inch width.

The C100 HD-S has low meterbridge and can accommodate storage beneath if legs are not fitted. Standard frame sizes range from 24+8 faders to 64+8 faders in 8-fader increments, with other sizes available by special order.

The C100 HD-S is functionally identical to the C100 HD control surface, ensuring transparent transition between the two consoles across multiple installations for operators and maintenance.

Version 4.0 software will be available to all existing clients in June 2007, and will become the standard for all new consoles from that time.

Further increasing the range of options available to C100 HD customers, a new processing core option will also be available from July 2007 alongside the newly expanded Centuri HD processor core. The new Centuri HD-S core is a slimline version of the processor, designed for quiet and access-limited applications such as small control rooms and broadcast vehicles. With a low-power design, the electronics are convection cooled and new PSUs are low-speed fan cooled, resulting in very quiet operation. It features a front-loading design with no access required to the rear, with generous airflow cavities top and bottom. The Centuri HD-S core will accept up to five DSP cards in dedicated slots, two computer cards, GPI card, plus five more cards that can be DSP or I/O, supporting 512 input faders. For further I/O expansion the standard routing card can host up to eight additional redundant MADI ports.

For maximum flexibility throughout diverse environments, the C100 HD and C100 HD-S control surfaces and Centuri HD and Centuri HD-S processor cores are interchangeable with new and existing products in the growing C100 HD product portfolio. Similarly, any combination of a customized console may be used with the C100 HD’s MORSE resource sharing and remote I/O solution.

“These latest developments underline our support for our growing C100 user community by responding to requests for an increase in the number of channels and a host of new features,” comments Niall Feldman, Solid State Logic Director of Product Marketing. “The C100 range now embraces a wider range of customers through the new S configuration and MORSE routing engine.”
