Omneon launches fully-integrated video server

Omneon Video Networks is launching a new Omneon MediaDeck fully integrated video server at NAB2007. The Omneon MediaDeck is a multichannel video server built on the same technology as the company’s flagship product, the Omneon Spectrum media server, enabling optimal interoperability and rock-solid reliability. With support for both HD and SD media, the Omneon MediaDeck delivers full server functionality at a price point that’s right for small and medium-sized broadcasters and other applications where a compact integrated system is desirable.

“The Omneon MediaDeck takes our proven technology and expands our line of broadcast-quality servers to fit a wider range of applications,” said Geoff Stedman, Omneon vice president of worldwide marketing. “It’s a no-compromise solution for facilities that want to take advantage of Omneon functionality and reliability at a lower price point.”

The Omneon MediaDeck is a full-featured media server system designed specifically for the demanding requirements of the broadcast and professional video industry. It supports up to six simultaneous video channels and contains four terabytes of disk storage, enough for over 200 content hours at 25 Mbps. The system’s disk drives, redundant power supplies, and even the media interface modules are hot swappable, allowing for easy serviceability and upgradeability as new codec technology becomes available.

The Omneon MediaDeck is a compact system with all disk storage and I/O modules contained within a single 2-RU chassis. A standard configuration includes eight enterprise-class SATA disk drives featuring dual-parity RAID for added protection, gigabit Ethernet capability with an open file system for simplified access to content by external applications, and support for either SD or HD channels depending on which media interface module is selected.

Omneon designed MediaDeck to be the ideal solution for small or medium-sized broadcasters, and for regional subsidiaries of larger broadcasters. The system is also well suited to function as an edge server for central data storage, both for local ingest and playout, or as one component in the multisystem environment of a larger broadcast infrastructure.

Because the system is based on core Spectrum designs and software code, including the same application programming interfaces, or “APIs,” MediaDeck is fully compatible with Omneon automation partners. Several of these partners, including Aveco, Crispin, IBIS, NVerzion, Pebble Beach Systems, Pro-Bel, and VCI (DTG), will be demonstrating their applications working with the Omneon MediaDeck at NAB2007 in their respective booths.
