Night games will stay rare occurrences

Iowa
has two night
games on the 2007 football schedule — and athletic director Gary Barta expects
it’ll stay that way.

The Hawkeyes have seven pm kickoffs
against
Syracuse at Kinnick Stadium on September
eighth and at

Wisconsin
on September 22nd.

Last fall, ABC and ESPN experimented
with primetime kickoffs and the ratings results were a bonanza. That includes
last September’s night game between
Ohio

State and

Iowa that drew five and a-half million
households.

With only three times set for the
12-game schedule this year, Barta doesn’t expect

Iowa to have any more night games for 2007.

Kinnick Stadium has a short history of night games. The
Ohio
State
game was

Iowa’s
first seven p-m home kickoff since 1992.
