Stanley Cup playoffs get top-shelf coverage

If there’s
one thing you hear consistently from hockey fans, it’s that you can never truly
appreciate the game until you’ve experienced it live and in person at the
arena.

Sound familiar, NASCAR fans?

We all know that any sport is far better when seen in person. But until you’ve
sat by the glass and had two players come flying into the boards in front of
you or tried to follow a wrister from the top of the circle, you’ll never know
just how fast and furious this game is.

And while the NHL has struggled in recent years, NBC and Versus have figured
out that if they are going to grow their audiences they must make their
broadcasts as close to a live-arena experience as possible.

Since the league returned from its disastrous work stoppage of 2004-05, the
networks have added a lot of features to their coverage: more cameras and
microphones, including overhead angles and “goalie cam,” as well as
NBC’s three-man broadcast team that includes analyst Pierre McGuire positioned
“inside the glass” between team benches. Full Article
