AT&T and myLEADERBOARD provide course updates for Golf Fans at Inaugural AT&T National Tournament
Story Highlights
AT&T
Inc. myLEADERBOARD have announced a “wireless caddie” of real-time
scoring updates, player information and golf-related news for golf fans at PGA
Tour events this summer who use AT&T hand-held devices.
AT&T
and myLEADERBOARD will distribute Cingular 8125 Pocket PCs at the inaugural
AT&T National hosted by Tiger Woods at the Congressional Country Club in
Bethesda,
Md.,
the week of July 2.
The
Cingular 8125 Pocket PCs are loaned to the first 500 fans that request a device
each day. With the pre-loaded myLEADERBOARD application, spectators can:
Receive real-time scoring for all players.
Locate and follow players on any hole.
Create a personalized leader board for
favorite players.
Get player bios, course data and current
stats.
Receive news flashes and crowd roar
explanations.
Identify nearby concessions, restrooms,
first-aid stations and shopping areas.
The
myLEADERBOARD application previously provided on-the-course updates with
customized PDA devices and a Wi-Fi network. By using AT&T’s devices and
EDGE nationwide wireless data network — the largest national high speed
wireless data network in the U.S. myLEADERBOARD saves four days of network
setup and configuration time for each tournament, and fans benefit from more
ubiquitous coverage on the course.
“The
AT&T solution has drastically reduced network management functions and
allowed us to focus on providing rich content to golf fans on the course,”
said John Geary, president and CEO, myLEADERBOARD. “The fan reception has
been great, and we expect to provide these devices at more tournaments next
year.”
The
Cingular 8125 Pocket PCs debuted at the AT&T Classic in
Atlanta in May and received positive feedback
from tournament fans and officials.
“The
biggest challenge at a tournament is choosing which groups to follow and which
holes to watch, but myLEADERBOARD content expands the scope of the experience
and allows fans to watch one group while receiving live updates on the rest of
the field,” said Tom Erdman, vice president, Corporate Markets Group,
AT&T’s wireless unit. “With access to player stats and course info,
fans have their own personal wireless caddie in the form of a familiar
hand-held device.”
