New Mobile Media Venture Supported by Omneon Spectrum Media Server
Story Highlights
Omneon Video Networks today announced that MediaFLO USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated, has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system to support FLO TV , MediaFLO USA’s mobile entertainment service now available in select markets across the U.S. With FLO TV, MediaFLO
USA aggregates and delivers TV-quality entertainment and information services to mobile phones. FLO TV programming currently includes eight channels of content from some of the world’s best-known entertainment brands.
At MediaFLO
USA, a fully mirrored multichannel Omneon Spectrum server system supports delays, ingest, and playout for originated programming as well as for interstitial material for the live playout channels. The Spectrum server makes material available for direct editing by MediaFLO
USA’s own production team, as well as stores all material from outside content providers. To support editorial reviews, proxies of material for all channels on the Spectrum system can be viewed by the production team from anywhere, on any desktop computer, using Omneon’s ProBrowse system.
“We wanted to build an efficient, reliable automated system, offering high availability with maximum monitoring and control as core design criteria,” said Tom Mikkelsen, senior director of operations at MediaFLO
USA. “Because of our commitment to meeting rigorous reliability standards, we valued proven technologies from best-of-breed vendors. The Omneon Spectrum server system fit perfectly into our plan for this unique and innovative application.”
