NHL Games to go Online
Story Highlights
The National Hockey League, has agreed a deal with NeuLion Inc to show games live on the web, starting from the 2007-2008 season.
The deal follows the NHL s attempts to use the internet to overcome declining US TV audiences of the sport.
Centre Ice packages will be sold on NHL.com and each of the 30 teams websites, for an annual price of $169 or daily passes at $15. NeuLion said the subscription will include HD video, highlights, pre-and post game shows, player information and social networking.
NewLion currently provide Internet TV technology to the York Islanders and New York Rangers, allowing new daily content that users can play, pause, fast-forward and rewind on screen. Only time will tell if NHL games online will be as successful as MLB.tv has been for baseball.
