BBC Research selects Leader HD analyzer

BBC Research, one of the world’s most highly respected broadcast development organizations, has chosen Leader’s LV5800 modular multi-standard signal analyzer to assist its ongoing research into high definition television program production and delivery. The investment follows on from the purchase of a Leader LV5700 in 2005.

A key reason for the choice of the instrument was its ability to handle native 1080p/50 via Dual Link. BBC Research is the BBC’s main source of forward-looking technical advice. The department has participated in many major engineering innovations including one of the world’s first video tape recorders, the pioneering VERA (Vision Electronic Recording Apparatus), which was demonstrated on-air on 14 April 1958.

Leader’s LV5800 allows multiple SDI or HD-SDI sources to be studied simultaneously. This permits fast and accurate calibration of, for example, incoming camera feeds. Up to eight sources can be monitored simultaneously via alarm settings for level, rise time, fall time and jitter, and up to four channels can be displayed simultaneously. Automatic signal detection enables the LV5800 to sense the input format, colorimetry and black burst or tri-level external reference input. A detachable front panel including a high quality 1024 x 768 pixel XGA display can
be mounted directly to the body of a camera or on the hull of a
mobile production vehicle.
