KSHB in Kansas City adds Utah Scientific routers

KSHB, an NBC affiliate station in Kansas
City, Mo., has
installed Utah HD and SD master control processors, a UTAH-400 router, and an
SC-4 control system. A new Utah Scientific customer, KSHB is a Scripps-Howard
station that operates Kansas City’s
NBC affiliate, TV-41, and an independent entertainment station, KMCI 38 The
“Our legacy system had grown over time to be so complex that it was
a logistical nightmare,” said KSHB Director of Engineering Jay Nix.
“Knowing we had to make a change, we looked at several vendors. I had
worked with Utah Scientific equipment at other stations and had only good
experience with them. In the end, the dealmaker was Utah Scientific’s 10-year,
no-fee warranty.”
At KSHB, a UTAH-400 router, V-288R frame-loaded HD 224×160, and A-288R
frame-loaded AES 224×160, is replacing six legacy routers from another vendor.
The installation also incorporates all-new master control equipment, including
two MCP-2020 panels, two SD-2020 processors, and two HD-2020 processors. The
new master control system eliminates a cumbersome set-up in which the HD
switcher was on the other side of the control room. Now, KSHB operators can
switch all four program streams from a single location, meaning they can work
faster and more flexibly.
