ESPN Brazil Adds Front Porch Digital Asset Management System
Story Highlights
ESPN in Brazil has implemented the Front Porch Digital DIVArchive system and will rely on DIVArchive to manage thousands of hours of content. The system was installed by LineUp Engenharia Electronica.
For now, archived broadcast-quality content at
ESPN is accessible only to librarians, with editors having access to
low-resolution browse copies via the MAM application. Plans are already
in place to upgrade the system by expanding the DIVArchive system for
redundancy and to improve bandwidth and add storage space, which
ultimately will grow to more than 200 TB.
“We were, frankly, feeling a bit overwhelmed
by the sheer volume of videotape we had amassed over the years,
especially considering that so much of it is unique and valuable in the
annals of international sports,” says Victor Hannoun, ESPN director of
operations. “By digitizing
our videotape archive and relying on DIVArchive to manage it, we
are furthering our goals of preserving and securing content, finding
and retrieving individual clips readily, and saving space and staff
time.”
DIVArchive combines software and hardware components
to provide a turnkey system that simplifies the preservation,
management, and retrieval of media content for varied operations of all
sizes.
Running under the direction of a Blue
Order MAM system, the DIVArchive system is starting small but is
projected to expand quickly, taking advantage of DIVArchive’s scalable
architecture.
“ESPN in Brazil is not alone in having a trove
of valuable content stored on videotape, taking up space without being
easily accessible,” said Mike Knaisch, president of Front Porch
Digital. “A digital management solution based on DIVArchive not only
secures the content, it also makes it available for future business
opportunities including new media.”
