Coastal Media Group Builds 3D Backhaul Expertise at NBA All-Star Saturday

When the NBA delivered a 3D experience to viewers across the country
with the help of Cinedigm it was up to Coastal Media Group to help
backhaul the content from U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix to Cinedigm’s
distribution facility.

“It isn’t very different from backhauling 2D as the production is given
to us in HDSDI but we are typically using higher bit rates,” says Bob
Adler, Coastal Media Group, CEO. “For this event it was MPEG2 at 60
Mbps with DVBs2 at 8PSK modulation.

For Coastal Media Group 3D is almost becoming a regular gig, having
worked on six events in the past year, including the BCS 3D
Championship Game last month. “All the events have been on the gee wiz
side of cool,” adds Adler. “Coastal Media Group (formally Coastal
Satellite) has been on the forefront of HD transmission for more than
five years and we’ve done several high-profile events over the last
year in addition to everyday sporting events.”
