Daktronics Lights Up University of South Carolina’s New Baseball Stadium

The University of South Carolina opened the gates of its
newly-constructed baseball stadium on February 21, 2009, with a bang — and some
graphics to go with it. The 8,242-seat stadium features a brand new baseball scoring, video,
and advertising display system designed, manufactured and installed by
Daktronics.

“The
scoreboard/video board has enhanced our game day atmosphere tremendously,”
explains Jeff Davis, associate athletic director for facilities at the University of South Carolina. “From the great
visibility of the game scoring and speed of pitch feature, to the public
service announcements, highlights, advertisements, player stats and high
resolution video replays of the action on the video board, the capabilities are
endless.”

Towering
over the left field wall, all the action of Gamecocks baseball is showcased by
Daktronics LED (light emitting diode) technology. As fans enter Carolina
Stadium, they are welcomed by a video board measuring 28 feet wide by 16 feet
high. The video board can operate as a single giant display or be divided into
multiple zones (windows) to show a variety of statistics, information,
graphics, animations, and live and recorded video.

Located
below the video board, a 36 foot wide baseball scoreboard provides game-in-progress
information with high brightness and low power LED digits.

To provide
additional entertainment and information, a 35 foot wide by four foot high
digital LED display rounds out one of most impressive systems in college
baseball. These displays provide fans with in-game information, out-of-town
scores, promotional messages and crowd prompts that create an interactive
experience. South Carolina
sponsors will also have creative opportunities to get their messages across
through motion graphics and other eye-catching content.

Along with
the new baseball display, Daktronics has also provided campus-wide integrated
systems for basketball, football, soccer, and softball.
