Partnerships Reflect Company Vision of New Omneon CEO

For the 2009 NAB Show, Omneon (Booth SU7217) is showing off several new workflows, two new partnerships, and a new CEO. During his first NAB press conference, Suresh Vasudevan, now in his third month as CEO of Omneon, cited three main areas of focus for the company: continuing its expertise in media processing, enhancing its industry-leading media-aligned file system, and continuing to build an ecosystem of partners with which the company can interface.

With that third area of focus in mind, Omneon detailed its new partnership agreements with Aspera, to collaborate on content-distribution-network technology, and Pixel Power, to integrate Pixel Power’s graphics solutions into Omneon products.

“It’s important for us to maintain an open framework that simplifies integration and encourages a broad ecosystem of partners,” said SVP for Products and Markets Geoff Stedman. “If we’re going to provide a platform, we need to make sure that application vendors in the marketplace can take full advantage of that platform.”

Aspera will acquire the Omneon Castify content-distribution business unit as part of the partnership, and the Omneon MediaDeck GX channel-playout solution, announced March 26, is the first product of the partnership between Omneon and Pixel Power.

As for his vision for the company, Vasudevan explained that, near term, Omneon will focus on its core customer base: broadcasters and content owners. The company will continue to expand its leadership in transmission while looking to gain share in production and content repurposing.

“That market is roughly four times the size of the transmission segment,” Vasudevan said. “That is a focus area for us.”

Internet content providers and enterprises also provide incremental expansion opportunities.

“Our aspiration is to be a leading provider of e-media content infrastructure,” he said. “We are opportunistically investing in those segments today, but they fit very well with where we want to go long term.”
