Global Media Awards for College Sports Announced at Inaugural College Sports Video Summit

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Sports Video Group (SVG) celebrated excellence across the spectrum of college-sports video production with the first annual Global Media Awards for College Sports. Honoring work by colleges and universities, national and regional sports networks, and technology innovators, the awards were presented June 9 at a gala event celebrating the inaugural College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta.

“This year’s winners are proof positive that college-sports excellence is not only found on the field of play or the top of a coaches poll,” says Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director, SVG. “College-sports video is an important part of the fan experience, and the Global Media Awards are a perfect way to honor that contribution.”

Says Paul Pillitteri, director, NATAS, “The Global Media Awards for College Sports gives us an opportunity to encourage excellence in all aspects of college-sports production and content. Working with the Sports Video Group, we have now enlarged our Global Media brand to encompass a growing and vibrant college community that competes with professional sports broadcasting in local markets across the country.”

The event was hosted by ESPN’s Dave Cohen, studio anchor and play-by-play announcer. The former TV play-by-play voice of the NY Yankees on the MSG Network won an Emmy Award in 1996 for his description of Dwight Gooden’s no-hitter.

A special presentation of the Global Media Visionary Award was made to Fox Sports, Cinedigm, 3ality Digital, Game Creek, and Sony for their innovations in 3D production and broadcast of the 2009 FedEx BCS National Championship Game.
