Gray Outfits Stations with Ross Video OverDrive

Gray Television has entered into an agreement to install Ross Video’s OverDrive automated production control (APC) in all 36 of its stations. OverDrive serves as a cost-effective platform that allows stations to produce HD content while simultaneously improving operational efficiencies.

Gray has installed OverDrive at WOWT-TV (Omaha, NE), WCTV-TV (Tallahassee, FL), and WIFR (Rockford, IL), and plans to outfit WNDU-DT (South Bend, IN) and KOLO-DT (Reno, NV) with the platform in the near future.

“I am confident our viewers will benefit from the enhanced production capabilities a Ross technology solution can provide,” says Jim Ocon, VP of Technology, Gray Television Inc. “The OverDrive APC workflow will ensure that these facilities exploit the power of automated production control technology to it’s fullest potential while enhancing the quality and efficiency of their control room operations. In addition, Ross Video’s technical services and support are the best I have ever seen in this industry. I have asked our stations to fill out report cards on our selected vendors and Ross clearly sets the standard for a professional installation.”

Designed by Ross using Java technologies and an IT-class client/server architecture, OverDrive extends the reach of the operator to include control of video servers, audio mixers, robotic cameras, multiple graphic channels and more.  In newsroom applications, the unique LiveLinkTM MOS connection to the newsroom control system (NRCS) provides a seamless production workflow from rundown creation to on-air playout.

“The commitment to OverDrive by such an esteemed broadcaster as Gray Television further strengthens our market-leading position in automated production control” says David Ross, CEO of Ross Video. “We are especially pleased to see our customers leverage Ross technology to increase efficiency in their organization while taking advantage of new business opportunities during the transition to HD.”
