DaySequerra Ships 7.1 DTS Neural Surround Audio Encoder

DaySequerra is shipping its next-generation 7.1 DTS Neural Surround audio encoder — decoder, what the company says is the industry’s first 7.1 and 5.1 surround audio over stereo transport solution.

“7.1 surround audio is the perfect complement to 3D content,” says Mark Seigle, DTS VP for business development. “DTS is driven to deliver high-performance technology for our customers worldwide, and our 7.1 broadcast solutions create a whole new level of envelopment for home viewers.”

“Given the recent announcements from Disney’s ESPN, DirecTV, Discovery Channel, and IMAX to broadcast 3D content in 2010, we think our push into 7.1 surround was timed just right,” adds David Day, president of DaySequerra. “Over the last nine months, we completed a series of successful on-air 7.1 tests on a number of high visibility live sports broadcasts. Our new 7.1 DownMix and UpMix are the obvious first choice for 3D, live sports, and other broadcasters looking to transmit in 5.1 or 7.1 surround and leverage their stereo infrastructure and/or legacy content.”

The DaySequerra DownMix encoder and UpMix decoder uses the proprietary DTS Neural Surround format to transport 7.1 surround audio over any existing stereo infrastructure. The DTS “watermarked stereo” LtRt stream accurately represents the original content when monitored in mono and stereo and is backwards-compatible with any other manufacturer’s legacy decoder. DTS Neural Surround delivers near discrete 7.1 audio reproduction and is an industry first for matrix encoded transport.
