Vancouver 2010: NBC Uses Smaller Crew, Production Center for First All-HD Olympics

The 2010 Vancouver Games will mark the first Winter Games to be produced and broadcast entirely in HD with multichannel surround sound.  However, NBC Universal actually plans to use a much smaller staff and leaner technical operation than in past years despite the hefty demands of the all-HD broadcast.

A result of the slow economy as well as NBC’s growing technological capabilities, the network will use 1,000 less crew members than it did four years ago in Salt Lake City and an International Broadcast Center (IBC) that is a third smaller.
