ESPN360 To Relaunch as ESPN3 in Time for Baseball Season

ESPN360.com is soon to be ESPN3.com, following an announcement from ESPN that the network’s 24-7 sports website will be officially relaunched as ESPN3 on April 4.  The new site’s debut coincides with start of baseball season and the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox opener will be streamed live on ESPN3.com

“The name ESPN3.com more closely aligns with the existing naming convention for our networks,” says Sean Bratches, executive vice president, sales and marketing. “We have approached this as a network for years, and as users have become more accustomed to engaging with content across various screens, it made sense to make adjustments that reflect both the product’s and the industry’s evolution.”

ESPN3.com will offer all the same functions currently available on ESPN360.com, along with enhancements that ESPN is set to announce closer to the launch date. Viewers can watch live and archived sporting events from around the world with full DVR abilities as well as the freedom to toggle between up to 20 events at once.

According to the Wall Street Journal, ESPN is planning an overhaul of its marketing campaign as well as new interactive features for the revamped site and is already in talks with television distributors and Internet providers to make it available to more customers. Plans may also be in the works to make the service available on on devices such as Web-enabled TVs or gaming consoles.

“The network will continue to offer the same great content that sports fans have come to expect, with more than 3,500 live events annually,” says Damon Phillips, VP, ESPN3.com. “We look forward to rolling out new enhancements to offer the best viewing experience possible in the months ahead.”
