Vancouver 2010: NBC Dominates Idol in Wednesday Night Ratings

For the first time since 2004, American Idol was not the top-rated primtime show in its timeslot, as NBC’s Olympic coverage dominated the Wednesday ratings war. NBC topped Fox’s Idol across the broad for the entire 9 p.m. hour and in most demographics.
According to TV by the Numbers, In the 9pm hour, Idol averaged a 6.9/17 rating /share with adults 18-49 to NBC’s 9.0/22. NBC averaged over 30 million viewers for that hour (30.065M) to Fox’s 18.42 million. Driven by gold medal showings from U.S. athletes Lindsey Vonn, Shuan White, and Shani Davis, NBC averaged an 8.9/23 rating/share with adults 18-49 and 29.26 million viewers overall on the night.
