Vancouver 2010: Zenkel Believes NBC Could Exceed Revenue Projections

Largely due to the better-than-expected showing by U.S. athletes, NBC has received a major ratings boost from the Vancouver Winter Olympics that may help to cut down the projected $250 million loss the network expects to take on the Games.

The 26.3 million-viewer average that NBC has drawn thus far is ahead of what advertisers predicted. NBC estimated that the event would generate $650 million to $700 million in revenue compared to the $820 million that the network paid for the TV rights. However, the Wall Street Journal reports that Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, believes NBC now has “a chance of exceeding” that forecast.
