Vizrt Announces Support for ProRes Codec

Vizrt’s rendering and compositing system, Viz Engine, expands its flexibility with support for the Apple ProRes codec. With the integration of ProRes support in the newest Matrox DSX software-development kit (SDK), Vizrt offers compatibility with Final Cut Pro, in addition to the SD and HD formats and codecs already supported. Vizrt is demonstrating this new functionality at NAB, Booth SL5408.

“By using Matrox DSX SDK, Vizrt can now offer support for ProRes using exactly the same file readers and writers as they were already using,” said  Donald Sievewright, EMEA sales manager of Matrox’s Video Products Group. “This saves Vizrt customers a great deal of time and effort.”

Viz Engine already supports industry-standard formats for digital video, including both SD and HD. In addition to its sophisticated 3D-graphics possibilities, Viz Engine also provides professional video-playout-server capabilities based on the Matrox X.mio2 video I/O platform. This includes back-to-back playback of video clips both in DVE mode and directly to a texture, which can then be composed with 3D graphics.

“We can now easily support workflows that rely on Final Cut Pro,” said Christian Huber, EVP of IT & Logistics for Vizrt. “We are now able to give our broadcast customers a more open and versatile solution, making their workflow more efficient and the Vizrt proposition even more compelling”
