MultiDyne Turns Up the LiGHTs at NAB

MultiDyne has unveiled its LiGHTCuBE fiber-optic field transport system at its Central Hall booth. The LiGHTCuBE is the company’s most customizable solution to date, capable of housing any product in the MultiDyne product line.

“This is field fiber transport that is extremely configurable and extremely dense,” says Managing Director Frank Jachetta. “You could have 80 HDs and 40 audios, all the way up to 120 I/Os.”

The LiGHTCuBE is compatible with DVI, RGB, and HDMI and is AC- and fully battery- powered, and new test and monitor features allow in-field signal monitoring.

“If the camera’s not there yet, you can test the feed by sending bars to the truck or from the truck, and they’re stamped to show you each feed and that it’s working,” Jachetta says.

The HD test-signal-generator option allows users to send the test pattern down the line or to send the signal from the studio end directly to the LiGHTCuBE, enabling monitoring of the camera output and the signals arriving at the shoot.

Also on exhibit, for the openGear platform, is the HD-4400-CWDM high-density, multirate, 3G HD-SDI SMPTE fiber-optic transport system with a 4×4 matrix on both the transmitter and receiver.

“With this card, four 3G HD-SDI signals on four fibers can be multiplexed onto one fiber,” Jachetta says. “That one fiber can go to another card and add another four videos, and that can loop to the next, up to 18 on one fiber. So, on one frame with two fibers, you could have up to 36 videos in either direction.”

To keep up with growing demand, MultiDyne is debuting LiGHTBoX 3D. The 3D version of the company’s popular LiGHTBoX field fiber transport system provides a natural evolution path for crews looking to stay ahead of the game when purchasing 3D-ready equipment.

“It’s essentially our existing LiGHTBoX but configured for the 3D environment,” says Jachetta, “which means extra video and many extra data paths. We wanted to address the 3D market directly, since we’ve been selling it so often generically to that market.”
