Lyon Video Taps Calrec’s Apollo Audio Console for New HD Truck

Mobile production services provider Lyon Video has selected Calrec Audio’s a 144-fader Apollo audio console with Bluefin2  HDSP, for its new HD truck, MU11, scheduled to hit the road in August. The Apollo console provides more than twice the processing power of other audio consoles, an extremely large channel count, and a highly responsive, user-configurable control surface.

“We chose the Apollo console because we believe it will give us a technical edge, particularly in providing tough mixes on extremely big shows,” says Chad Snyder, Lyon Video account manager. “Apollo is a truly impressive digital desk, and its 144 faders give the audio operator extremely fast access to sources. In fact, when our entertainment clients see so many faders, all they can say is, ‘Wow!'”

Apollo affords in-depth 512 x 512-channel MADI integration to the truck’s Evertz router, making it possible to save and recall a comprehensive matrix of audio signals from the Calrec or Evertz control systems. This control system integration will help to streamline setup for recurring shows, saving time for Lyon and money for Lyon’s customers.

In addition, Calrec’s Hydra2 networking system, which provides multiformat I/O for the Apollo, affords a distributed, flexible audio network that can be cost-effectively altered with the simple addition of I/O boxes.

The Calrec Apollo console relies on Bluefin2, the next generation of Calrec’s trademark Bluefin high-density signal processing system, to provide unrivalled resources at multiple sample rates. At 48 kHz, Bluefin2 gives Apollo up to 1,020 channel processing paths, 128 program busses, 96 IFB/track outputs, and 48 auxiliaries. At 96 kHz, Apollo affords 510 channel processing paths, 64 program busses, 48 IFB/Track outputs, and 24 auxiliaries.

The new console for MU11 is its seventh provided to Lyon Video by Calrec Audio. Currently being built by Gerling & Associates, the new truck is 53 feet long with a 49-foot expanding side. It will cover both sports and entertainment events.
