Versus Taps SportsMEDIA Technologies for Indy 500 Qualifying

Versus deployed solutions from SportsMEDIA Technology Corp. for its broadcast of the Indy 500 qualifying races last weekend.

Versus used SportsMEDIA’s technology to deliver a first ever interactive analysis of the qualifying races from its new Izod Pit Performance Center on top of a hauler in pit row.  On-air talent Jack Arute utilized SportsMEDIA’s GOTO Board, a custom built 55-inch outdoor interactive touch screen, to guide his broadcast and interactively share with the television audience key information including on-track weather conditions, pole qualifying results, racing statistics, racing technology, the qualifying racers, images from pit row, the start grid and biometrics.

Versus also used SportsMEDIA’s new ISO Track to identify and follow specific cars as they zoomed around the track providing images from in-car cameras and aerial coverage of the race track.   ISO Track makes it possible for Versus to seamlessly integrate dynamic camera images with graphics, real-time statistics, and telemetry information.  ISO Track’s graphics capabilities also allowed IndyCar Series sponsor Izod to tightly integrate its branding with qualifying race results and associated graphics. After using ISO Track at the Izod IndyCar Series race on April 11, 2010, Versus decided to incorporate this technology into the Indy 500 qualifying events as well.

“SportsMEDIA has the enabling technology broadcasters need to innovate and strengthen sports broadcasts and to support sponsors’ marketing goals,” says Patricia Hopkins, VP of marketing at SportsMEDIA.  “Versus and Izod are to be commended for seizing this opportunity to use new tools during their broadcast and for tightly aligning the Izod brand with the excitement of Indy racing.”

SportsMEDIA’s Race Services system will be used to support all track activity on television on Versus and ABC including Qualifying, Practice, Carb Day and the Indy 500 on May 30, 2010.  SportsMEDIA has supported broadcasts of the Indy 500 races and qualifying races since 1995.
