Comcast Plans To Deliver World Cup In Next-Generation 3D

Comcast will deliver a multiplatform experience of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, offering every FIFA World Cup match live in its entirety, live games in 3D from ESPN 3D, games on-demand the next day, and online coverage with live games and the latest news.  It will also provide the world’s premier soccer tournament in both English and Spanish.

Comcast was the first cable affiliate to sign on to deliver ESPN 3D, just weeks after bringing consumers the first live national next-generation 3D sporting event with the Masters golf tournament in April.

“The World Cup in 3D is going to be an unforgettable viewing experience,” says Diana Kerekes, VP of entertainment services for Comcast.  “Regardless of time zones, 3D, or HD, our cross-platform coverage brings all the action to soccer fans however and whenever they want.”

Comcast will offer the first matchup, featuring South Africa versus Mexico, in next-generation 3D from ESPN 3D on June 11. Throughout the World Cup, it will feature up to 25 matches in 3D from ESPN 3D.

Among online offerings,  a digital calendar feature will remind viewers of game times, channels, and matchups.
