Chinese Broadcaster’s Newest OB Truck Incorporates Riedel Intercom

NanfangTV, a regional Chinese broadcast station covering an area of approximately 100 million people, equipped its new 14-camera HD OB truck with an intercom system from Riedel Communications. RacPro, Riedel’s Chinese partner installed a system combining Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom and Performer digital partyline technology.

At the heart of the OB truck is an Artist 64 digital matrix intercom mainframe. The frame is equipped with redundant CPUs and power supplies. AIO client cards integrate 4-wire signals into the intercom, while two Riedel Connect Solo interfaces allow for the connection of POTS telephones to the intercom infrastructure. A total of 16 Artist 2000 series LCD control panels are used within the OB truck. An additional Riedel Performer digital partyline system is installed in the truck to provide communications between the director and the cameraman.

“The solution with an extra Performer installation gives us maximum system reliability,” says Chen Wenfei at Nanfang TV. “The seamless integration of both systems makes the daily operation really convenient and expands the installation.”

The Performer setup consists of 10 digital partyline beltpacks and a C44 system interface that also integrates the partyline installation into the Artist infrastructure. Performer is the first partyline system to combine the convenience of a partyline setup with the advantages of digital audio.

IN addition, 20 Riedel PRO headsets are used at the Nanfang OB truck. Their soft ear cups provide noise attenuation and feature a fully adjustable padded headband.
