RedStormSports.com Unveils “Inside St. John’s” Online Video Guides

The Red Storm Department of Athletics is proud to introduce its new series of interactive video guides on RedStormSports.com, titled “Inside St. John’s.” The guides, which give alumni, fans, media, benefactors and others video insight into every aspect of all 17 St. John’s varsity athletics programs, are now live as part of the official online home of Red Storm Athletics.

The “Inside St. John’s” online video guides give Red Storm fans and friends an efficient, unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on each aspect of every sports team, as described by the coaching staffs and student-athletes themselves. Listen to the coaching philosophies of men’s basketball coach Steve Lavin and women’s volleyball coach Joanne Persico, or meet the men’s and women’s soccer coaching staffs. Take a tour of Jack Kaiser Stadium with baseball shortstop Joe Panik, or walk through Carnesecca Arena with women’s basketball guard Sky Lindsay. Watch videos that outline Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Academic Support and Student Development all by navigating through each “Inside St. John’s” website. Viewers should download the latest Adobe Flash player for best results.

“The launch of the ‘Inside St. John’s’ websites keeps us on the cutting edge of an ever-changing medium. The sites will assist us in our efforts to ‘go green’ and contain costs, and will also help us reach an even greater audience by giving these products a permanent online home,” says Chris Monasch, St. John’s Director of Athletics.

In addition to the interactive video aspects, each “Inside” page links to Red Storm rosters and bios, schedules and ticket information, archived video, St. John’s Athletics traditions, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. St. John’s Athletics created these entertaining, informative, interactive and cost-efficient video guides to accompany printable online team record books to meet the needs of alumni, fans, friends, media and others.

The newly-launched “Inside St. John’s” sites highlight, promote and provide information on Red Storm men’s basketball (www.stjbasketball.com), women’s basketball (www.stjwomensbasketball.com), baseball (www.stjbaseball.com), softball (www.stjsoftball.com), lacrosse (www.stjlacrosse.com), men’s soccer  (www.stjsoccer.com), women’s soccer  (www.stjwomenssoccer.com), volleyball (www.stjvball.com), cross country, track & field (www.stjtrack.com), tennis (www.stjtennis.com), golf (www.stjgolf.com) and fencing (www.stjfencing.com).

New NCAA legislation, citing green initiatives and cost containment for Division I athletics programs, have restricted the distribution of traditional media guides beginning in the 2010-11 athletics year. Beginning in 2009-10, collegiate athletics departments began to move toward an online product in the form of PDFs, interactive video/text guides and other platforms. For all of those reasons, St. John’s chose to begin the transition by creating these easily updateable and cost-effective “Inside” video pages.

Powered by the NewTek TriCaster and constructed by CBSSports.com College Network, the 12 “Inside St. John’s” sites are comprised of 120-plus videos that each run around one-minute in length, making each of the sport’s sites navigable in 15 minutes or less. The videos themselves were all produced by St. John’s undergraduate and graduate students in the Athletic Communications Department.
