Adtec Contribution Encoders Facilitate World Cup Broadcast

Multi-Link Holland deployed Adtec’s latest contribution encoders for coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Netherlands-based full-service SNG company provided the live transmission, using MediaHUB-HD422 and EN80 high-definition encoders.

Dutch public broadcaster NOS covered the tournament with daily live broadcasts from Johannesburg, including the popular program Studio Sport Zomer with host Jack van Gelder.

“Customer demand for high-definition transmissions is increasing rapidly and is feeding demand for facilitating MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD compression,” says Bob Snieder, founder/co-owner/operator of Multi-Link Holland. “But SD and MPEG-2 will not just disappear; we will need to keep supporting both formats and resolutions. Adtec’s solution supports both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, 4:2:0 and 4:2:2, HD and SD.

“We are currently using the MediaHUB-HD422 for live Formula 1 racing to full satisfaction of our customer EBU,” he continues, noting that Adtec’s contribution encoders provide compatibility with existing decoders, low latency, optimal Dolby E pass-through, and support for both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/AVC infrastructures.

IBC 2010: Adtec Intros RD-60 Integrated Receiver/Decoder

Adtec’s new RD-60 integrated receiver decoder (IRD) supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 platforms with 420 and 422 HD and SD decoding. It decodes both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video with 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 chroma sampling. It boasts four pairs of stereo audio, including MPEG-1 Layer 2, Dolby AC3/5.1, HE-AAC, and AAC-LC audio decoding. Pass-through support includes PCM, DolbyE/2.0/5.1, and Linear Acoustic Stream Stacker. The RD-60 supports redundant AC or DC dual power supplies and enhanced control and monitoring via SNMP and browser. Standard inputs include IP and ASI, with optional dual DVBS/S2 tuner demodulator supporting Q/8PSK. An optional high-end Newtec DVBS/S2 tuner demodulator supports QPSK up to 32APSK.
