SVG Digital Sports Summit Addresses All Things Streaming, Mobile

The latest developments in streaming, mobile, and more were the focus of SVG’s fourth-annual Digital Sports Summit, which drew more than 180 attendees on Sept. 22 to a day-long session in New York. Experts from both the vendor and end-user sides discussed the current digital sports landscape and where the rapidly changing industry is headed.

Sony served as title sponsor for the event, which was also sponsored by Grass Valley, Bexel, Rimage, Front Porch Digital, Globecomm, Miranda, Omneon, Polar Mobile, and Tightrope Media Systems.

The morning sessions kicked off with a keynote speech by New Meadowlands Stadium CTO Peter Brickman and New York Giants Entertainment VP/Executive Producer Don Sperling, who provided an inside look at the stadium’s efforts in serving today’s digital fan.

The afternoon keynote provided a look at UltraViolet, industry consortium DECE’s consumer brand, which is intended to transform the media landscape by allowing consumers who purchase physical media like DVDs and Blu-ray to watch that content across multiple platforms.

Industry leaders from leagues, teams, and networks discussed their evolving digital strategies during a pair of panels that featured top technology executives from NASCAR.com, the USTA, MLB Advanced Media, the NHL, Penn State University, NBC Sports, Comcast Sports Group, ESPN3.com, and the YES Network.

In addition, a quartet of panels throughout the day addressed the skyrocketing use of handheld devices, streaming-media formats, online-content protection, and the evolving living room.
