Ryder Cup Mobile App Features Free Video Highlights, $1.99 Upgrade for Streaming Sirius-XM Audio

PGA.com, Ryder Cup Europe, and RyderCup.com have released The 2010 Ryder Cup App, which will include two versions – one for the U.S. and one for Europe. The free app will provide live scoring, breaking news coverage, instant updates, and a full stable of video highlights during the competition from Oct. 1 – 3. The Ryder Cup app is managed by Turner Sports.

The U.S. version of the app also offers an in-app purchase for $1.99 where users can upgrade to exclusive access of multi-hole coverage and, for the first time, SiriusXM radio coverage. The European version of the app will offer free video highlights and clips on demand and complete Live Ryder Cup Radio coverage.

“With the combined efforts of PGA.com, Ryder Cup Europe and RyderCup.com, we were able to set a new standard for interactive and mobile coverage for The 2010 Ryder Cup,” says Gary Treater senior director of business operations for PGA.com. “The Ryder Cup App, with live access and radio coverage will provide golf fans with access and instant updates directly from the course allowing them to follow the event from wherever they are.”

The Ryder Cup App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, and iPod touch or from www.itunes.com/app/2010rydercup

The Ryder Cup App utilizes advanced push notifications to help fans keep track of their favorite players, breaking news, hole-by-hole scoring, session scores and match results without having the app open and different push notifications utilize specific sounds, which highlight the nature of the alert.

Through the Facebook Connect feature, users can exchange banter between other fans of the respective teams and post comments directly within the App.

The live scoring feature leverages the landscape format of the iPhone allowing fans to view side-by-side match scoring and results as well as player and course information.  The course features section provides imagery for all of Celtic Manor’s 18 holes including hole photos and flyover video that captures the course details from a bird’s eye view. The News feature will provide frequent updates to storylines and news.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with the rydercup.com team at Turner Sports on the development of The Ryder Cup App,” says Mark Lichtenhein, Director of New Media and Broadcasting for Ryder Cup Europe.” The opportunity to provide fans with an exclusive app that offers live scoring, radio coverage and much more for The Ryder Cup speaks to our continued commitment to provide the best interactive experience possible.”
