Nissan Stadium Orders Two Diamond Vision LED Displays from Mitsubishi Electric

Mitsubishi Electric has received an order for two large Diamond Vision display systems from Nissan Stadium, Japan’s largest capacity athletic facility accommodating 72,000 located in Kohoku Ward, Yokohama City. The large displays will be the first full HD Diamond Vision displays in Japan, and will replace the facility’s current CRT main display installed in 1997. Installation is scheduled to begin in December 2010 and end in March 2011.

Each of the two displays will be a 22 m x 9 m full HD screen featuring high-luminance LEDs aligned in a 8 mm dot pitch installed on each of the stadium’s two side stands. Each display will be 1.1 times wider than the current screen, and will digitally showcase all the information required for each sporting event. Mitsubishi Electric estimates that the displays will reduce energy consumption by around 60% compared to the previous CRT display through the use of LED and the company’s electric power control technology.

Nissan Stadium opened in 1998 in SHINYOKOHAMA PARK. The multipurpose stadium, which hosted 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan finals, is a venue for official games of the Japan Professional Football League (J. League), serves as the home stadium of the Yokohama F. Marinos, and hosts many international track and field meets.

Mitsubishi Electric has installed numerous other Diamond Vision displays globally and achieved several Guinness World Records. Recent key installations of Diamond Vision displays include the 1,513-inch screen at the Fukuoka Kyotei (boat race) in August 2010, the 600-inch screen at KKWING Kumamoto in March 2010, the 1,036-inch screen at Kleenex Stadium Miyagi in March 2010, the 4,255-inch screen at Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse in January 2010 and the two 2,086-inch screens at Cowboys Stadium in September 2009.
