Ratings Roundup: ALCS Game 6 Scores Second-Largest MLB Audience in Cable History

The New York Yankees’ 2010 season is over, but at least they went out with a ratings bang: 11.9 million viewers tuned in for the Texas Rangers’ victory in Game 6 of the ALCS on TBS, making it the most-watched regular- or post-season game of the season (MLB All-Star Game drew 12.118 million). The audience also represents the second-largest in TBS’s 34-year history and the second-largest ever for an MLB game on cable. …Overall, the 2010 ALCS averaged a 5.1 U.S. rating and 8.223 million viewers on TBS, up 34% in rating and 36% in viewership from last year’s Phillies-Dodgers NLCS (3.8, 6.064 million). As for the TBS’s postseason as a whole, the network averaged a 3.6 U.S. rating and 5.627 million viewers for coverage of the 2010 MLB postseason, up 9% in ratings and viewership from last year (3.3, 5.146 million)…

…Game 6 of the Giants-Phillies NLCS drew a 6.7 final rating and 11.6 million viewers on Fox Saturday night. Fox averaged a 5.5 and 9.1 million viewers with the broadcasts of the six NLCS games between the Giants and Phillies, up 49% in viewership and 45% in household rating over last year’s NLCS on TBS (3.8, 6.1 million viewers). However, those numbers are down 15% in rating and 12% in viewership from last year’s Yankees-Angels ALCS on Fox (6.5, 10.3 million). Overall, the series ranked as the highest-rated and most-watched NLCS since 2006, when the Cardinals and Mets went to seven games (7.1, 10.5 million viewers).

…Sunday night’s Vikings-Packers telecast on NBC was the most-watched and highest-rated Sunday Night Football game ever, drawing in 25.7 million viewers and posting a 15.4/25 national rating/share. The matchup was the most-watched October primetime NFL game in 14 years, and viewership was up 71% from last year’s Week 7 game (Cardinals-Giants, 15.0 million). Additionally, the 15.4/25 national rating/share was 69% ahead of last year’s Week 7 SNF game (Cardinals-Giants, 9.1/15)…

…This week’s chapter of Monday Night Football, featuring the Giants and Cowboys, notched a 12.3 overnight rating on ESPN, up 34% from Week 7 last year (Eagles-Redskins: 9.2). The 12.3 overnight is the highest of the season for Monday Night Football, topping the previous high set by Vikings-Jets two weeks earlier (12.2).
